Grandparents and grandchildren

Paying for a grandchild’s insurance does not settle who owns it or can apply. Insurable interest, consent and each insurer’s rules need confirmation. This page explains the boundaries; no insurer-wide grandparent eligibility or nationality rule has been verified here.

What usually matters

IA requires insurable interest when insuring another person and relates it to legal, blood or property relationships; this does not establish a particular grandparent application’s acceptance. IA: buying insurance and insurable interest

A whole life policy’s coverage duration and premium-payment duration differ. Finishing payments for a grandchild does not itself end cover or transfer ownership. IA: life insurance types and cash values

Questions to take to the broker

Ask the insurer to confirm permitted owner, payer, relationship evidence, parental consent and ownership succession in writing.
