Check a Hong Kong broker and avoid insurance scams
Check the company and the person before any insurance sales discussion. A licence check does not guarantee returns or suitable cover.
Check the Insurance Authority register
- Ask for the company’s legal name and IA licence number, plus the name and licence number of the individual handling the sale.
- Open the IA register. Search the company name or licence number. Check its current licence status and broker-company category.
- Check the individual’s licence status, permitted activities and company connection. Ask the IA about mismatches before continuing.
- Confirm the person works there using independently verified company contacts.
- Screenshots, social profiles and messages are not licence evidence.
Our broker-verification promise
When you contact us, the licensed broker who handles your enquiry will first tell you its company name and Insurance Authority licence number. You can check it on the IA register before you continue.
The broker’s identity is not published here; verify the company name and licence directly before continuing.
How we choose brokers
- An IA-licensed insurance broker company, rather than a single-insurer agent.
- Able to compare several insurers. This does not mean every insurer or product is available.
- With an office in Hong Kong, where all sales take place.
Warning signs: stop and check
- Premiums requested in a personal account or cash: use the insurer’s official payment channels and pay the insurer directly.
- Private rebates or cashback outside the policy’s official terms: ask the insurer to verify any offer. We do not offer rebates.
- “Guaranteed” dividends or returns unsupported by the policy: separate contractual guarantees from non-guaranteed illustrations.
- Mainland visitor sales outside Hong Kong: the IA requires the entire sales process and in-person signatures in Hong Kong.
- Pressure to pay now, skip documents or keep offers secret: read the policy and confirm explanations with the insurer.
What our referral service does
We publish information and, with consent, introduce enquiries to a licensed Hong Kong broker. We may receive a referral fee.
We give no insurance advice or product recommendations, arrange no policies or trips, and handle no applications or premiums.
