Moving countries with a Hong Kong policy?
Before moving, update residence and tax details and confirm payment, servicing and overseas claim arrangements with your insurer. Continuation depends on the contract. Hong Kong Insurance Connect provides general information and introductions; a licensed Hong Kong broker advises and arranges.

What should I notify before moving?
Ask for the insurer’s residence-change procedure and deadline. Update residential and correspondence addresses, phone, email and tax-residence details separately; retain acknowledgement. Prudential’s public contact form separates contact changes from tax self-certification. Updating an address does not confirm unchanged cover. [M1]
Prepare a policy list showing insurer, owner, insured person, benefits, currency, renewal date and overseas contact route. Ask whether the destination changes renewal, medical territory, exclusions or available servicing. Obtain a written answer for each policy and rider before cancelling or replacing anything.
How do tax residence and CRS change?
Declare the actual tax jurisdictions and taxpayer identification numbers requested by the insurer; a passport is not a tax-residence determination. IRD’s sample individual self-certification undertakes to supply an updated form within 30 days of a relevant change. Check the insurer’s own form. [M3]
CRS/AEOI concerns reportable financial accounts, including qualifying cash-value insurance; it is not a tax exemption or a tax calculation for every policy. Reporting institutions identify reportable account holders and supply information to IRD. Have a destination tax adviser review the contract and residence dates. [M2]
Can I pay and service the policy from abroad?
Check the payer, sending country, accepted currency, fees, due date and documents before using an overseas account. Confirm receipt and policy allocation rather than relying on bank debit. An insurer’s payment channel does not settle the sending country’s FX rules. See the payment guide below.
Prudential’s public form library includes contact changes and telegraphic-transfer notifications. Their availability does not show that every policy change can be completed remotely. Ask which operations need an original signature, certified identification, courier or in-person attendance, and how to recover account access after changing phone numbers. [M4]
How will claims from abroad work?
Ask separately whether the overseas event or treatment is covered and whether documents can be submitted remotely. Confirm notification deadlines, medical or death evidence, translations, originals and settlement currency or bank route. Online submission alone does not establish overseas eligibility. Keep policy documents and the insurer’s claim contact accessible to family; use our overseas-claims guide for scoped public examples.
What changes for BN(O) and Chinese migrants?
For a BN(O) holder moving to the UK, assess UK tax residence under the residence tests; BN(O) status alone does not decide it. UK residents normally face tax on foreign income, with applicable reliefs requiring separate review. Read the UK country guide and obtain policy-specific tax advice. [M5]
For a Chinese passport holder moving to Canada, CRA distinguishes immigration status from income-tax residence. Establish your residence date and ask about foreign-policy reporting; use the Canada guide. [M6]
For a Chinese passport holder moving to the US, US tax residents generally report worldwide income. Ask the insurer to record any new US-person status and verify continuing service; read the US country and US-person guides. CRS does not replace US reporting. [M7]
For a Chinese passport holder moving to Australia, ATO’s dated foreign-income instructions require Australian residents to report assessable foreign income. Check current resident or temporary-resident treatment with a local adviser; the Australia guide explains the separate policy questions. These are process examples, not individual tax conclusions. [M8]
Where can I read more and enquire?
Payment checklist · Overseas claims · US-person questions · Medical relocation questions.
Life-stage hub · Goal hub · Medical goal · Trust checks · Fulfillment-ratio context.
Country guides · Mainland China · United Kingdom · Canada · United States · Australia.
Ask about this process. Share insurer, policy type and current or destination residence only; omit account numbers and identity documents.
What do readers ask?
Does moving automatically cancel my policy?
Do not infer cancellation or continuation from the move alone. Request written policy and rider-specific confirmation.
Is changing my mailing address enough?
No. Ask separately about residence, tax self-certification and any new nationality or US-person information.
Must I declare more than one tax residence?
Provide all jurisdictions required by the self-certification and obtain tax advice if status is uncertain.
Does a BN(O) visa determine UK tax residence?
No. Review the residence tests and your actual circumstances.
Can I keep paying from an overseas account?
Only through an accepted payer, currency and channel, subject to the sending bank’s lawful rules.
Does online claims access mean worldwide cover?
No. The event, treatment and territory must meet the policy terms.
Should I surrender before immigration?
This guide gives no surrender recommendation. Ask for contract values, coverage effects and destination tax review first.
